The majestic and imposing structure of the Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish along the bustling Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Tandang Sora, Quezon City was formerly a small chapel under the Parish of San Nicolas de Tolentino (run by the Order of Augustinian Recollects) and was then part of the Archdiocese of Manila before the establishment of the new Diocese of Novaliches.
In 1991, it was called the Saint Charbel Chapel and was constructed with the permission of Jaime Cardinal L. Sin to be the designated place of worship of the future parish. But had to be relocated to a new site owned by the Geraldez Family along Mindanao Avenue at St. Dominic 3 Subdivision for the new parish.
The ground-breaking ceremony on October 19, 1991 formally started the construction of the new parish church. In March 25, 1992, on the Feast Day of the Annunciation, the chaplaincy was elevated by the His Excellency the late Jaime Cardinal Sin to become the Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish. And on March 12, 1997, the dream became a reality with the blessing and dedication of the church.
The parish was named to honor the joyous moment of the “Annunciation” (Lk 1:26-38), which Christians all over celebrate every 25th day of March and is regarded as the official feast day of the Parish.
Under its parochial jurisdiction were the Saint Vincent Seminary Chapel of the Vincentian Fathers (now established as a new parish and shrine: Santuario De San Vicente De Paul and Shrine for the Poor), the JEM 9 & 10 Village Chapel, and the Landcom Village Chapel.
Cardinal Sin then appointed Rev. Msgr. (then, Rev. Fr.) Jaime “Jun” Zurbano as its first parish priest. Since then, the leadership of the parish was passed on to two other great pastors, Rev. Fr. Mario Sanchez and Rev. Msgr. Jesus Romulo Ranada.
20 years later, OLAP was elevated to become a Diocesan Shrine of the Incarnation through the efforts of Msgr. Ranada and the approval of his excellency, Most Rev. Antonio Tobias of the newly created Diocese of Novaliches.
