An official of the Diocese of Novaliches Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC Nova) explained the rationale of holding the BEC Big Day with the Theme, Ang Kabataan sa Nagpapanibagong Simbahan, as a means to emphasize the important role of the Youth in the BECs and in the Catholic Church itself.
“Bakit nagpapanibago?” began Diocesan BEC Animator Benjamin Custodio III during the launch of BEC Big Day to the Diocesan Pastoral Team (DPT) last August 31, 2019, “because that is the nature of our Church and that it is continuously renewing itself.”
“With regards to the Youth, nararapat na maging simbahan ito ng Kabataan,” he emphasized on the importance of the Youth in the Church.
Held in the Caritas Novaliches, Custodio told members of the DPT that theme was in consonance with the celebration of the Year of the Youth. As such, the event itself—BEC Big Day 2019—is a partnership of BEC Nova with the Diocese of Novaliches Commission of Youth (COY Nova).
“This will be the first time in five years that we will celebrate in three districts in different days,” he revealed. “More than an activity, this is in response to our priority mandate to further strengthen our communities.”
During the launch, Diocesan District Coordinators Joseph Balandra (Commonwealth), Linda Sabio (Quirino-Tandang Sora), and Fe Almario (Caloocan) took turns in detailing their respective celebrations that included motorcades, interesting talks, praise and worship, as well as presentations by the Youth.
The BEC Big Day was launched five years ago as one of the ways to fully unite and strengthen the diocesan communities. This year, it is also aimed at touching base with the Youth and celebrating with them. (~Lulu Reclusado-Nario)
