A local ordinary emphasized the need for the elders of today to journey with the Youth in finding the answers to life’s difficult questions as a sign of their love during the first day of the 6th Philippine Conference On New Evangelization (PCNE 6) held in the University of Santo Tomas on July 19, 2019.

“Many of the Youth today have many questions–new questions that are difficult to answer, that the elders among us do not know how to respond to it,” remarked the Most Rev. Rex Andrew C. Alarcon, D.D., Bishop of Daet, during his Homily.

When this happens, the bishop highlighted the need for truthfulness by saying, “Tell them, ‘My child, I am with you! I, too, am in search of the answers to your questions’.”

He then revealed to the hundreds gathered at the venue’s Quadricentennial Pavilion that “most of these questions are on the truth of God’s existence and if God really listens”. He then elaborated on the truth on God and how He Himself, through Jesus Christ, the second person of the Holy Trinity, actually journeyed with us and continuous to journey with us in life.

“What is the truth? The truth is that God walked with us, He is with us. He did not just peeked in this world,” he elaborated, “He embraced our poor state in life, walked carrying the cross of our sins, and introduced us to the Father.”

“He invites all of us to walk with him,” emphasized the incoming Chair of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on the Youth (CBCP ECY), “to walk with the Youth.”

This, he said, is similar to his favorite quotation which states, “to love is not only saying, ‘I love you’, but to say, ‘I want to accompany you, I want to walk with you’.”

“To love is to walk with each other, to accompany each other,” he underscored.

With his homily revolving on the topic, “Jesus Walked With them”, which is the theme of PCNE 6, the Bishop shared his own faith journey as a Youth through the unexpected circumstances of his life that, eventually, lead him to becoming one of the young bishops in the Country.
