COY NOVA Toasts Successful End To H.E.A.R.T. Cup

In the Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities, the Diocese of Novaliches Commission on Youth (COY Nova) culminated its first-ever inter-vicariate sports fest dubbed as the His Excellency Antonio R. Tobias (H.E.A.R.T.) Cup 2017 last May 21 at the Commonwealth Elementary School in Quezon City.

The Most Rev. Antonio R. Tobias led the Holy Mass for the culminating activities, which included a Youth Dance and Song Worship, Desatas Festival, and Coronation for the Mr. and Ms. HEART Cup 2017. The highlight of the event was the awarding ceremonies for the various sports events and the overall winners.

The Our Lady of Mercy Viariate’s Arien Lein C. Ibardo and Carl Justine M. Collado bagged the Mr. and Ms. HEART CUP 2017. First Runner-Ups were San Isidro Labrador Vicariate’s Hannah Marie C. Banzuelo and Ina ng Lupang Pangako Vicariate’s Niño Fernando C. Castro. While Ina ng Lupang Pangako Vicariate’s Ma. Gabrielle Ann P. Marcelino and Sto. Nino Vicariate’s Brex P. Reyes went home as Second Runner-Up.

For the actual Sports Fest, San Isidro Labrador Vicariate was declared Over-all Champion, seconded by Christ The King Vicariate. The Third Place Winner was Sto. Nino Vicariate. The Sports Fest involved a series of basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis, badminton, and cheer dancing competition.

COY NOVA Coordinator Alloy Peralta says that the HEART Cup will be done every two years to continue to deepen the appreciation of young people in sharing Christ’s mission. As their slogan says, “Bringing the Youth closer to the Church and the Church closer to the Youth”.

COY NOVA intended to gather the Youth of the Diocese to strengthen their camaraderie, sportsmanship, and skills in sports aside from raise funds for the promotion of Vocations. It also promoted the Diocesan Patron Saint of the Youth Mary the Untier of Knots or commonly known as Inang Desay through a streetdance competition called Desatas Festival. In gist, the HEART Cup showcased the beauty, talent and wit of Novaliches’ Youth.

The HEART Cup ran on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) since its opening ceremonies last April 29, 2017 that was held through a Holy Mass Mass celebrated by the Bishop at the Mother of the Redeemer Parish (MRP) in Deparo, C.C.

During which, a parade of vicariate representatives took place from MRP to La Consolacion College where the program proper was held. The program included a Youth Worship, Lighting Ceremony, and Cheerdance Competition and the presentation of the Mr. and Ms. HEART Cup 2017 for their Sports Wear Competition. (~Hanie Banzuelo)
