The Diocese of Novaliches Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC NOVA) in partnership with the Social Communications and Media Ministry (SocComm Nova) recently launched a Blog Site for the Year of the Parish As Communion of Communities (Year of BEC 2017) last March 4, 2017.
Acting as a campaign site, the blog site aims to create awareness on the importance of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines’ (CBCP) declared theme for 2017 as the “Year Of The Parish As Communion Of Communities” in line with the upcoming 500th anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines on 2021.
The blog site also acts as a landing pad for “all-things-BEC” by having a section for each of BEC NOVA’s major programs for the year: the Mga Mumunting Kwentong BEC (MMKB), a video making competition intent on harvesting stories of conversion from the grass roots; the Gawad Himig Bukluran (GHB), a song writing and singing competition meant to highlight musical talents to come up with a Diocesan BEC Theme; and the Gawad H.E.A.R.T. Bukluran Leader (HEARTNova), a recognition of individuals who have the heart of the Most Rev. Antonio R. Tobias, D.D. for the Basic Ecclesial Communities.
As such, the blog site provides parishes the mechanics and registration forms for each parish to easily join and participate the programs. It will eventually contain the entries of the parishes for each competition.
It also provides updates on each and on the other activities of BEC Nova for the year, which includes a monthly Communion of Communities Forum at St. Peter Parish Shrine of Leaders every Thursdays–except this March 29; a Simultaneous Parish Festival on June 11; and a Diocesan Culminating Activity on November 20, which is also the event where the winners for all the programs will be announced.
The blog site also contains downloadable materials on the Year Of The Parish As Communion Of Communities such as the CBCP Pastoral Letter and PowerPoint presentations of CBCP BEC Director Fr. Amando Picardal during his talk in the Shrine of St. Paul, Casa Milan for the Diocesan Theological Pastoral Congress on the Year of the BEC last November 19, 2016.
A historical undertaking, it is the first time for BEC NOVA to come out with a campaign site and overall campaign for the year through the initiative of SocComm Nova that provided assistance from the very conceptualization of the programs to the actual creation of the blog site and its succeeding online promotion through Social Media.
“We hope that this partnership will not only benefit the parishes in terms of their BECs but also help them realize the importance of the Social Communications and Media Ministry and lead to its establishment in the parishes,” stated Diocesan BEC Animator Karl Comiling. As of date, only 26 of the 69 parishes of the Diocese of Novaliches has an established Media Ministry. (~Minnie Agdeppa)
