Last January 8, 2016, the Social Communications and Media Ministry of the Diocese of Novaliches (SocComm Nova) through its Director Rev. Fr. Ambrosio Nonato Legaspi sealed its partnership with One Billion Stories (OBS) through its Philippine President Mr. David Panlilio for the Social Media coverage of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC 2016) in Cebu in a meeting held at Christ The King Parish in Filinvest 2, Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
One Billion Stories is a US-based Catholic missionary organization that promulgates hope through online videos. As such, the SocComm Nova-OBS partnership entailed producing human interest stories on IEC 2016. More specifically, SocComm Nova assisted the OBS Team with interviews on ordinary people in the streets of Cebu for the latter’s Instagram Account feature entitled, “Humans of IEC”–a local adaptation of Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York.
SocComm Nova also handled capturing “silent videos” on the Deaf Tracks of IEC 2016; coordinating interviews with the IEC 2016 speakers, particularly His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, DD and Fr. Cyril Axelrod; and sharing the videos created by OBS Philippines that was posted in their Facebook Profile to the followers of the Diocese of Novaliches’ Social Media Accounts.
OBS, as counterpart, processed the IEC 2016 Media Accreditation of SocComm Nova’s Team–comprised of Rev. Fr. Ambrosio Nonato Legaspi, Lay Coordinator Minnie De Luna, and Writer/Researcher Roy Villafania for this partnership, which enabled full Media Access in all the venues and events throughout the Congress.
The Media Accreditation was actually coursed through OBS’ own partnership with St. Paul’s Philippines, the official Social Media Coverage provider of IEC 2016. This automatically included SocComm Nova as one of the Media partners under the St. Paul’s flagship. This entitled the SocComm Nova team to attend the St. Paul Commissioning Mass and Vesting for its Media partners last January 11, 2016 and the Social Media Training conducted by GMA Online on January 12, 2016 both in St. Paul’s Makati. More than anything, the partnership provided the SocComm Nova Team the Media exposure and training it needed being a neophyte in the Ministry of Social Communications and Media.
The SocComm Nova-OBS Partnership extends in May 2016 for SocComm Nova’s “Seminar On Documentary Videographies With Religious Themes” as part of its 2016 seminar series (venue and date to be announced soon) that will be open to anyone from the Diocese of Novaliches who are interested to join the Media Ministry.
SocComm Nova also simultaneously handled the Diocesan coverage of IEC 2016 in addition to its task for the OBS Partnership. A separate team–comprised of Photographer Josephine Barbin, Documentor Sr. Evangeline Zotomayor, and Researcher / Marketing Consultant Amelita Arado–was assigned to interview the Diocesan Delegates on their daily IEC 2016 experience and for SocComm Nova’s Jubilee of Mercy Online Programme, Encounters of Mercy.
Currently, SocComm Nova is compiling its footages and photographs of the IEC 2016 experience for a comprehensive video report it intends to release during the Holy Week. (~SocComm Nova)
